AI agent is not a better workflow

Most enterprise AI discussions still start the same way: first map the process, then find steps and use-cases to automate.
That mindset made sense for traditional automation like RPA. But AI is not most valuable when it selects between predefined options in a workflow. Its value is in understanding context and finding a path to the right outcome.
Real work rarely follows one fixed path. Take employee onboarding: there is a goal (a new employee ready to work), rules to respect, systems to use, and many variations depending on role, location, equipment, or exceptions.
Humans do not work by following perfect workflows. They navigate toward goals within constraints. AI should be designed for the same kind of work.
💡 That is why AI adoption needs a different lens: less process automation, more digital employees operating toward outcomes within clear guardrails.
